In order to get into covenant with God, we must PUT HIM ON, we must be COVERED BY HIM. In fact under the old covenant, (Torah law) one was only in covenant with God when they were circumcised. God commanded that they were to do this, and by doing so, they were really putting on THE WORD OF GOD.
Now we know that the word of God, is God and it cannot be separated. So when we put on the name of Jesus, according now to the New Covenant message in Acts 2:38, we are putting on God! We are really doing the same thing as the ancient Hebrews! We are putting on the very word of God, who is God! When we believe this, it's counted as righteousness! Of course if we believe, we will do it because faith must be accompanied by action or it is dead. So when we PUT ON the word of God, we are putting on God himself.
In the New Covenant we are PROMISED His very Spirit "inside" us! So now, not only is God "on us" and covering us, ( According to the Old Covenant) but he is now "in us!" (According to the New Covenant) Now God cannot deny himself as stated in 2 Timothy 2:13, so if is covering us and in us, he cannot deny us because we reflect him!
Now sometimes like Lot we are faithless but HE IS ALWAYS faithful. This is why even on our worst days, he can still see Himself on us and in us. The goal is to mature IN Him, so that we can be reflect him not only spiritually but physically, as a living sacrifice. In doing this we are extending HIS words in every facet of our lives in hope that these words will be a blessing to others. In fact, our goal is to help others be covered like us so that they can be PASSED OVER from death to life.
In fact, the very word "Hebrew" is Hebrew and means "TO PASS OVER!" The only way to be passed over is to be IN Jesus, putting on HIS word, which is the only connection to HIS story. His story speaks of HIS CHARACTER, HIS VIRTUE, and HIS BLOOD. In fact without the word of God...there can be NO BLOOD for the remission of sins because without the word of God (BIBLE) HOW DO WE EVEN KNOW THAT HE DIED AS A PAYMENT FOR SIN? In fact, how do we even know what sin even is? 1 John tells us that the word and the blood are in agreement, so how do we apply the blood to get passed over? We put on HIS word! (ACTS 2:38)
ACTS 2:38 tells us how to apply the blood so that our sins can be forgiven and we can pass over, from death, to life! It's about PUTTING ON THE WORD OF GOD, this is how we are covered by him and can pass over from death to life! In fact, it always has been about this! Will you be covered like LOT, who's very name means "cover") as he was covered and passed over from the destruction of Sodom! (Genesis chap 19 talks about the city Lot lived in being destroyed, yet Lot was rescued by 2 angels!)
Now one is born a Hebrew, which I know is in opposition to popular opinion. But it is God's very word that defines what a true "Hebrew" is. So let me now share with you what a Hebrew is, according to God's word. A Hebrew is a person called to receive God's promises. In fact, scripture first uses the word Hebrew, in Genesis 14:13 to describe Abraham! Now the word "Hebrew" according to the very Hebrew language means "to pass over, passer over, and transition!" It's an action word or a verb, meaning that it's an action. Of course again, action always accompanies faith! (James 2:26)
Hebrews 11:8 tells us that "By faith Abraham, when he was CALLED, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going." So here it is, Abraham is passing over from a life of tradition, lies, and confusion to a life lead by God where he would inherit the promises of God and find rest! Abraham is was TO PASS OVER from death to life!
Now when you ad his nephew Lot into the picture who also followed Abraham out of the city of Ur, Lot's very name also tells a story. In fact, Lot's name means "cover" or "veil." It's interesting to note that Lot fell into the promises of God because he pursued and went after Abraham. It's also Interesting to note that Abraham's name means "father." Remember Lot's father died which is why Abraham took Lot in and Lot followed Abraham! (We too are to be like Lot and follow our Father, Jesus.)
Now we know that time and time again, Lot messes up big time and even though Lot jacked up time and time again, he was preserved and covered by Abraham and God! Lot went on to father the Moabites (Yup, via incest...even bound by sin, Lot's story goes on and lives!) God preserved Lot's lineage. In fact, even King David could trace his lineage to Lot, as his great grandmother RUTH was a Moabite! LOT was covered by God and so was his lineage! Ruth was covered by God and became a HEBREW! In fact, she lived a life in agreement to a Hebrew named Naomi, who's very name is Hebrew for "agreement!" So now when we line up ourselves and be agreement with the very word of God that both He and His people speak, we can become Hebrew and be passed over from death to life!
This is all made possible when we esteem and put on the living word of God! Lot's story is still speaking. I know life can sometimes be a struggle, but will you be like Lot be covered by God? Will you be passed over from death to life? Will you become a true Hebrew?
