We've all heard it before, "What is truth?" This is the famous line that Pontius Pilate asked Jesus in John 18:38. Pilate was oblivious to truth, because truth was looking him straight in the face. Pilate was a product of a world of Spiritual ignorance, blind nationalism, materialism, and selfishness. In fact, the ancient Roman Empire was a world that where orgies, homosexuality, and barbaric gladiatorial events, were the norm.
In fact if you are reading this, you may be thinking that I am being quite critical of the ancient Romans.
Well, to that I would say, consider this: Tiberius was Emperor of Rome around the time of Jesus. Tiberius, like Pilate, was a also a product of his environment.
Tiberius was so into himself and living in luxury that he made new laws and appointed his top guard to rule in his place! Not only that, but he had built for himself a huge villa, where he would spend most of his days having sex with infants, toddlers, and young boys! In fact his villa was called, The Villa of Jupiter. Jupiter was of course the king of the gods in Roman religion. Jupiter was worshiped via feasts of decadence and festivals where people would self indulge in unrestrained feasting, drinking. At most of these festivals (that acknowledged a plethora of Roman gods) erotic dancing, cross dressing, and orgies were a norm. Roman culture was a pinnacle of ego mania and pleasure seeking. Where do you think the old saying "When in Rome" came from? This superficial and meaningless worship gratified only the body, any deep thoughts of spiritual substance were literally only skin deep. After life was not a thought in the lives of most Romans, these people really did "live for today."
As I'm writing this I can't help but parallel this to the culture in which I am living in. Granted we not be as crazy as the Romans. After all, gladiatorial games don't exist nowadays and when people go to church they don't all start having sex with each other. I would though contend that the same spirit of indulgence is present. Just like the days of Pontius Pilate, there is a famine in the land, a famine of truth. Gods people are all called to be lights of the world. In fact, we are called to be more than followers, but disciples. A disciple is one who "instructs" and to "trains." In fact this word is very closely related to discipline. (Something the ancient Romans were not.) The definition of the word discipline is: Training expected to produce and specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral mental improvement.
Being a disciple is much more than being just a follower. Consider this, when Jesus fed the 5,000, he fed mostly followers. These people were all blessed, because they all received a free meal. But Jesus said that those who would truly follow him would hunger and thirst no more! When Jesus died most of his followers and disciples abandoned him. In fact, it wasn't until he personally appeared to them AFTER his death that they really became his disciples. We know that at this time, Jesus had to stay with them all for 40 days, because they had to be fully trained. Even after this 40 period, He told them to go to Jerusalem and to wait for "Power from on high." (LUKE 24:49) At this time, Jesus had only a total of 120 disciples and 0 followers. This 120, became the first church on the day of Pentecost, when Jesus Spirit was poured out on all of them! (GALATIONS 4:6) Not some third spirit or person that makes up one spirit or person...One God, one spirit, that has no limitations and can be in innumerable things if it's his will. So now, what are these followers to do? Well, what did Jesus say? Jesus commissioned all of his followers, to go into all the world! " MATTHEW 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
We are to make disciples, not followers. Being a follower of Jesus is personal. Jesus wants true worshipers who will worship him in Spirit and in truth. - John 4:23 Have you convinced anyone to get baptized lately? If not, why not? This is what we as disciples of Jesus are all commanded to do? Can we honestly say we are a disciple if we are not doing this? Some convicting questions to really think on, I believe these words are convicting because the world is experiencing a famine of truth. People, like Pilate 2,000 plus years ago, do not know truth, the elements of our world around us capture us and keep us from the things of God. Why? Well, because the people who have the truth are apparently not doing their job, or maybe, maybe they themselves are without truth! So, What is truth?
So lets get back to Pilates question, what us truth? Jesus himself says in John 14:6 that HE is "the way, the truth, and the life!" Jesus is truth! So if Jesus is truth, then wouldn't that mean that every single thing he says would be truth because He is the word made flesh! Wouldn't that make Jesus a walking Torah? it sure would and because Jesus is the word of God, Jesus is the very fullness of God! Jesus is not a second person in some deluded, man made concept of a triune God. YOU CANNOT SEPARATE GOD FROM HIS WORD. In fact, science can even back this up as sound waves never die. If you separate Jesus words from His body...death is the result. Jesus himself clears this up in John 6:63 "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you-they are Spirit and they are life." This passage and thought, completely destroys the idea of Jesus flesh pre-existing time and physical reality. Flesh is stinky, it is what makes us able to have a physical presence in this world. Human flesh was created by God out of dirt! Without the Spirit it had absolutely no life, so God breathed into man the breathe of life. (Genesis 2:7) The Spirit that inhabited man, this was the image that we were created in! (Genesis 1:27) We are so carnal minded that we have accepted this idea from pompous theologians who have no grounds but their own deluded thoughts. The image of God that mankind was created in was SPIRITUAL...it was not at all physical. God is a Spirit...not dirt.
Unfortunately humanity fell from this perfect image. We all began to miss the mark of God. Missing the mark, or inclination to do evil is the Hebrew concept and definition of the word sin. Of course we know that evil is anything that God does not like. In order to live righteous we must live according to what God says, and that is found in his word and in our conscience. This law of God brings judgement and with it, death. Because all of humanity is powerless to the inclination of evil, or sin that is ever present in this world. The law can only curb our actions but it cannot defend our minds or charge our spirits to these tempting inclinations. (Romans 8:2-3) So God himself, had to come into this world, robbed in flesh, in order to make right what we did wrong. He had to pour out his very Spirit, because His Spirit is more effective and better than the law. (Hebrews 8:6) The Law or Torah shows us right vs wrong, but it cannot help us to live above it's influences. The Torah cannot change us, like the very Spirit of God can!
Adam and Eve brought sin into the world, but you and I are to blame as well because we also were helpless against it. This brings me to my next point. Another deluded idea that is completely un-Biblical and running rampant in "Christianity" is the lie of original sin. Ezekiel 18:20 says "The soul that sins shall die." The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." There are two great truths in this verse. The obvious one is that each man is accountable for his own actions. If my dad killed a man, I would not carry his sin. This point shows that sin is not passed down. Sin is not in our DNA and passed down like a disease of the blood. The effects of sin can be passed down, for instance if my mother was on crack cocaine while she was pregnant, my body would share in the effects of her sin, but not my spirit. On that note, look at this verse doesn't say that the body that sins shall die, even though our flesh does in fact does die. Rather, it is THE SOUL that commits sin!
This again shows that sin is a force that attacks our spirit and is presents itself in our minds, not in our bodies. Our bodies just act on what starts in our spirit and the false reality that is created in our mind. This false reality is when we convince ourselves that evil looks appealing, when in fact it is our destruction. Why did Eve sin? Eve sinned, because the fruit was appealing to her eyes. (Genesis 3:6)
We must understand a few foundational truths to grasp the idea of sin and how it works, in it's entirety. We must understand that it was the Lucifer himself who tempted Eve and because Adam sinned (note, that it was not Eve's sin that infected the world, but Adam) Now when sin came into the world, through Adam, physical death came with it. How do I know this? Well because Romans 5:12 explains this word for word. When reading this verse, we understand now that the world is full of this force that Adam allowed into the world through one action. Now we just went over how sin is an element or invisible force like gravity and not inherited. So lets go on and see how sin infects or attacks us? 1 John 1:26. This verse shows us that this "sin" is an element that is present in this physical world and there are only three ways in which this force can mess with us! Please keep in mind that sin starts in the mind, and goes after our thoughts. We know that if as so much as look at a person with lust, we commit that sin in our heart. (Matthew 5:28)
So how does John 1:26 tell us sin effects us? In three ways, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Now check this out, sin attacks us when our bodies get tempted in doing something we know is wrong because it feels good. Sin can attack us when we look at something and dwell on that something because it looks appealing, when we know it is wrong. Finally, sin attacks us when we do something contrary to God's word because we are personally invested into doing something wrong, but we do not want to acknowledge it because it is bringing us worldly success. (We are not willing to yield to our own pride.) Bringing this back full circle, I'm sure Pilate was convicted with at some point because Romans 2:14-15 says that God's law is actually written in our hearts! (Even Gentiles like Pilate)
So even Pilate, oblivious to truth is still without excuse. This is a very convicting and sobering thought as God gives each man the ability to know him. I don't have a heaven or a hell to put anyone in, but he does, which is why I am sincerely trying to live by His words. Even if I don't agree or don't want to, I must discipline my own self to conform to his Holy image, and by the power of His Holy Spirit, it is possible. Romans 1:20-21 confirms that people, are without excuse.
Now getting back to putting the nail in the coffin of the idea of original sin, I know someone is going to quote Psalm 51:5 because after all, that is what our blind teachers have conditioned us to do. Well lets look at Psalm 51:5. Better yet, lets look at this verse in plain English and take away the twist in which the non-spirit filled translators put on this verse. "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me." That is what is said, now of course many will be conditioned to say that David was born sinful and in iniquity. Unfortunately they won't even stop there, but will go on to say that David's mother sinned having him and that the very act of sex is a sin! So lets take down these false foundations of lies, which came into existence in isolated towers of seminary schools that put tradition and western thought, before the very Spirit and word of God.
Now nowhere in the Bible is sex a sinful act. Sex is only a sin, when it is not sanctioned by God. That is having sex outside of marriage or in marriage with another person who you are not married to. We don't even have to get on the topic of having sex with an animal or a human of the same sex, because the definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. So now that we've established that, was Davids mother a sinner? Well of course all have fallen short of God's glory, we can find this idea in the old and new testament. Romans 3:23 and Ecclesiastes 7:20. Remember though, we have already established that one cannot be deemed guilty for the sin of their parents. Not only that, but we see the word iniquity in this verse. The word iniquity means a gross injustice and extreme immorality. The only incident where David would have been near this form of sin was when he committed adultery and had a the woman's husband murdered. Iniquity is a step further than the plain old sin. So how could David skip from sin to iniquity as a baby? What could he do as a baby that was so awful, let alone comprehend it?
So what then, is Psalms 51:5 saying? All it's saying is this, David was brought into a world of iniquity and in a world of sin, his own mother convenience him. Some may believe the theologians dressed up in the Philosophers Robe, as if their robe gives them credibility or a special place with God. Well my God did not need philosophy to explain His own words. All he needed was His very own Spirit, because He was God and He manifested himself in flesh. Jesus own disciples did not need years of theology school, just a few years with the Messiah himself! The Spirit of Jewish thought came in a Tallit, not a Greek robe. Even though the New Testament was written in Greek, it was thought in Hebrew.
For good measure another nail in the coffin of original sin is as simple as this. God himself had to come down to make our relationship after Adam and Eve sinned Jesus body was a vessel in which the eternal God lived a life as a human. If original sin was in fact true, then Jesus would have been born A SINNER. After all he was the very fullness of God's Eternal Spirit, robbed in a body of flesh. Keep in mind that bodies are fragile and susceptible to cuts, cold, heat, they need food to exist, they need water to exist, they stink, and they must excrete waste. Jesus did all of this? Are these things sinning? Absolutely not! Forget the monks that lived in solitary confinement because they thought that being human was a sin, it's not! In Judaism, this was never the case, but unfortunately many gentiles have started to believe the lie that it was by their superiority and not the grace of God that they can be salvaged. Sorry Martin Luther, but "The Jews and their lies" is not a very Christian book. Don't even get me started on the inquisitions and the crusades of the middle ages. Jesus said, that "by their works you should know them." Matthew 7:20 I am not going to turn a blind eye because my relationship with my race, culture, and sentiments of my family and friends. I must account for only myself and the word of God MUST be my only marker that I must measure up to.
The lie of original sin was fostered by the accepted idea that Mary was perfect. Mary was a virgin as the Bible says, but like every human being, she needed a savior too. Mary fell short of God's glory but was blessed above all other woman, because she would carry and mother over, her God and Messiah!
We must get fully out of Babylon as repeated in the book of Revelation. The root of Babylon is Hebrew and it is Babel, this word means "CONFUSION." Christianity is still in Babylon and under these stony foundations of lies that have been able to endure over the centuries of traditions of men, we must break them down and uncover the Hebrew roots of our faith. In these last days, these roots are crying out and are becoming more significant and evident. They are beginning to grow and I believe that the restoration and the grafting in of the very people who rejected the Messiah the first time, will be ready to accept him the second time around!
We must remember that modern day Theology came out of the Roman Catholic Church. This institution at one point became so corrupt, that they taught that heaven could be obtained by buying indulgences! (Certificates to heaven) Major reformers like John Calvin, John Wycliffe, Martian Luther, John Huss all wanted to reform Babylon, but the Bible tells us that we must come out of her! Babylon cannot be salvaged because Babylon is not built on the Rock.
Jesus is the only rock and the only secure foundation. His word alone is supreme. No man, denomination, or tradition can trump the word of God. Jesus cannot be replaced and is still the head of the church. Jesus does not need a replacement on earth and such a thought is Anti-Christ. Jesus Spirit is still very much alive as it NEVER died nor can die. His Spirit is still working in his church of disciples who have all been born again, of water and Spirit. The Bible says that the head of the Church is Jesus, not the Pope. The Pope is not Holy nor infallible. Haggai 2:12-13 shows us that holiness is not infections, but unholiness is. This idea rings true as over 1 billion people have fell plague to this unholy sickness.
The Messiah's body is where the pinky is just as important as the arm. A body where all are to praise God and shout with a voice of triumph, from the least to the greatest! A body where social status, race, money, and anything superficial has no place. A place where his disciples model his character and image. Jesus lived his life for us, he did not do the will of his own flesh (to experience comfort, security, pleasure, fleeing from pain, fleeing from trouble) He only did the perfect will of God. (discipline, sacrifice, mercy, love for others, helping others, following Torah)
To conclude this, I would like to again ask why is there a famine of this truth? Just like the culture of ancient Rome, we face a culture today where a vast majority people are spiritually blind. The images that we worship are just as superficial and worthless as the images worshiped by the ancient Roman. The worst part of this all is the fact that we have access to the word of God and there are churches around every corner! Yet..there remains a famine of truth. As George Orwell would say, in a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act. Well I hope that this blog will help start a fire of truth to spring forth, as we are too late in the game to play around. Absolute truth does exist and I'm going to boldly proclaim it. We all have a choice, do we yield ourselves to the Spirit of truth? Or do we maintain our ego as Pilate did. Pilate did not kill Jesus, nor did the Jews, nor the Romans. Jesus laid down his life, no man took it from him. He allowed himself to be sacrificed for us. Jesus is not a weak God, but a All-mighty God who expects holiness and is looking for true worshipers, those who worship him in Spirit and in truth. Like the woman was taken from the rib of Adam, the fist man. The woman, the very Bride of Messiah was taken from his rib. The blood and water from Jesus side, started his church and those who wish to be his bride must make themselves ready. (Acts 2:38) He supplied the grace and period of time where we have this opportunity. The Bible says that Noah found grace. Note Noah did not earn it, but he found it. Noah found grace because he was looking for it.
In these days of famine, many are falling because the word of the LORD is scarce, but a shaking is coming that will make God's people arise! We are all living in the prophecy of Amos 8:11. I encourage everyone readying this to finish this with the word of God and read Amos 8:11 to Amos 9:11.
An earth shaking event is on the way and I highly recommend everyone reading this to read a book called, The Harbinger. (I don't agree with EVERYTHING in it) But this book is onto the idea that something huge is on the way. A great time of revival is also coming, will you be a part of it? Will you be a disciple or are you going to just stick to being a follower? I hope you are convinced that anything less than a disciple won't cut it. We were all made to be a part of this end time, will you pick up the cross you were destined to carry, or will you appease your own flesh? I hope we all chose life, because those who loose their life will find it and those why try to preserve their life, will loose it. - Matthew 16:26
In fact if you are reading this, you may be thinking that I am being quite critical of the ancient Romans.
