My latest book I read, The Mystery of the Shemitah was fascinating. It was packed with all kinds of information. One such piece of information that caught my interest was the separatist movement. After doing a little research I'm finding out that early America was founded on this movement. The separatist movement started in Europe, England turned into a spot for this movement since they were one of the first countries to totally cut ties with the Roman Catholic Church/State. This occurred in the late and early 1500's, right on point with the reformation. During the beginning of this time period The Roman Catholic church was Europe's Supreme physical and spiritual power. They waged war on anyone who threatened either form of power.
Keep in mind that in the this entity had an iron rule from 300 A.D. to 1517. When Rome fell, the church still managed to hang onto it's strength. Now in 1517 Martin Luther made the 95 thesis. These writings of what was wrong with the church and what needed to be changed became wide spread throughout Europe. Luther's writings challenged the church because he found that the Church was not practicing nor teaching doctrine that he found in scripture. Of course during this time period, we have to remember that only the nobility and clergy could read the Bible. At this time period the Bible was only written in Latin (language of the elite.)
The Catholic church had suppressed the Bible as well as other knowledge to keep Europe engulfed under their authority. They managed to do this for over a millennia! Luther's act of trying to reform the Church turned into an act of defiance. In 1521 Luther was excommunicated by the Roman Catholic Church and branded a heretic. Luther's non-intentional act of defiance created title waves. After printing his own writings, and Bibles into the common language of German, knowledge was at the finger tips of people throughout Europe! The timing for this couldn't have been better as Luther's personal friend, Johannes Gutenburg invented the printing press, mass producing books and writing like never before!
Luther's convictions became famous over night and unbeknownst to him, he helped to spark an era, the age of enlightenment or "The Renaissance." During this time period the Catholic church could no longer control information. New ideas and knowledge was being craved by the average person like never before. The control and power of the Holy Roman Empire was starting to slip.
Millions of people throughout Europe started questioning the church. The massive blow to the churches credibility lead to the rise science and the arts, educational practices formerly dubbed "taboo" by the Church.
More and more people began to wake up to the false teachings of the Catholic church and this lead to a severe blow to their power both spiritually and physically. In fact wars even broke out throughout Europe many against the Holy Roman Empire. The Church was loosing it's spiritual power and also physical power. (Physical and spiritual is connected.) The house of cards they built up was built on lies and control..and it was falling. Now many other churches sprang out of this by simply finding errors and and running with the word of God. Christian sects were springing up all over the place! sprang up over night! Many churches came out of this, and all of them belonged to a movement called the "separatist movement."
Many of these movements were so new that they were still finding more and more truths. They needed time to incubate because all of them were really "projects" that needed time to be illuminated by the word of God. Again, keep in mind that for over one-thousand years the average European was not able to read the Bible since it was only written in the language of the clergy and the nobility. (Latin)
As the Old world was uncovering more and more, a the discover of a new land, America was underway. Many of these separatists where fugitives of the Holy Roman Empire. Some of these separatists sects were even hated by other separatists sects. So to find the religious freedoms that they were all so desperately craving, many of these sects ventured to America. The most notably the of these was, The Pilgrims. Keep in mind that breaks within separatists groups were very common. Everyone wanted to find a new piece of truth that the other did not have, some of course went at lengths to do this and unfortunately instead of being lead by God, they were lead by their own lust for power.
Now getting back to the Pilgrims. The pilgrims were very much into the Biblical teaching of modesty. They stuck out in part to their holiness standards and also because of their great zeal for the Bible. Like many of the other separatists movements they were persecuted. This persecution perpetuated their zeal as the Pilgrims as a people began correlating their struggle with that of the Biblical Hebrews in the Book of Exodus. This concept didn't stop when they came to the New World, as they started naming many of their towns after the same Biblical names that they Hebrews called their cities in the Bible!
Have you ever wondered why so many cities in early America had names like Zion, Salem, and Bethel? This is because many of these separatist groups, like the Pilgrims believed that they were a spiritual manifestation of the people in the Book!
In fact, the entire holiday of Thanksgiving, made famous by the Pilgrims, highlights this fact. In fact, Thanksgiving falls very close to the same time as the Hebrew holiday of Sukkot. Do you know that Sukkot was first observed in the wilderness when the Hebrew people were on their way to the promised land? Do you know that it was a fall harvest festival where the Hebrew people Thanked God for all of his blessings and provision. Furthermore did you know that this Biblical/Jewish holiday is historically inspired the Pilgrims Thanksgiving feast! The Pilgrims were one of the most zealous separatists groups out there and like many other separatists sects, they took their connection to the people of the book, very seriously.
Another very interesting fact to note is about John Foxe, he too was a separatists and became known for writing a book known today as "Foxes Book of Martyrs!" This book details a lengthy historical account of Separatist or Protestant suffering, under the Roman Catholic Church. What's amazing is how far back into history it reaches. This book does a great job showing to what evil means the Roman Catholic church went to, in covering up the truth. It shows how much violence it used to perpetuate and foster deception.
Christianity is really a new thing as the last days approach, God is allowing more and more truth to be uncovered. Over one-thousand years of church history, the truth was covered in blood and deception reigned supreme. This is why today, Christianity still remains fragmented. This is also why the invisible body of believers as a whole are not visible. Christians are not walking in the true Biblical authority they had in the Book of Acts.
The New World has been a test tube for Christianity. I believe that God has used and is still using America to be the safe haven for His very church to be restored and come back to full authority and power on earth. Of course even today sects are continuing to split into sects but a time period is coming where the truth will unite. God has used America to be the temporary wilderness for His spiritual people who ran from the Spiritual bondage of the false church. Unfortunately Babylon is still in existence and all of the churches who have come out of her, have not come fully out. False teachings (un-Biblical) and assumed truths that the false church has ingrained in "Christianity" like the "trinity," and infant baptism, still remain.
Babylon is fallen and soon it will be destroyed. It's interesting to note that Babylon comes out of the Hebrew root word, Babel. This word "Babel" means confusion. Of course this the saying "Babylon is fallen" comes directly out of the last book of the Bible, the Book of Revelation, or revealing. As more and more of God's word becomes revealed, the more and more confusion falls.
I believe that America is God's experiment that will end up blessing not only his spiritual children but also his original children, the Jewish people. The knowledge and unity that is on the way in this country will affect the entire world. At the same time, I believe that America is going to be shaken. This shaking is going to touch the entire world and out of it, only what is built on the Word of God will stand. I believe that this shaking is what is going to propel the church to it's former state. A unity and power is about to come on scene that hasn't been seen since the book of Acts is on the way. Why am I so firm on this belief? Well the Bible predicts a great shaking and also a great restoration of the church!
